The holomedical application VSI-Virtual Surgery Intelligence has been designed to support doctors and clinic staff in their preparation for surgeries, in dialogue with patients and for a smoother workflow in order to put the patient back in the focus.

Surgery Planning

VSI Surgery Planning is designed for planning surgical procedures. CT, MRI, SPECT/CT, CBCT, PETCT etc. are automatically represented three-dimensionally in VSI.

A virtual toolbox of 10 different tools allows the user to slice into the 3D scan, giving a different perspective of a specific point of interest, to draw the incision point in advance of the surgery, or to plan the placement of a catheter.

Once finished, the doctor can save the planning and recall it at any time when it is needed.

3D Telemedicine

Communicate with your colleagues from any location, eliminate risk of infection and appear on-site as a 3D avatar. Your head and hand movements are transmitted in real time through the avatar, while you simultaneously share medical information, such as 3D MRI/CT images of the patient.

Conduct tumor board meetings, consultations with specialists, communication with technicians and much more – with the world’s first 3D telemedicine technology from apoQlar.

Patient Education

The doctor and patient see the same 3D representation of the CT/MRI scans in real space. The doctor can slice into them using a virtual cube, or highlighting a specific spot using a pen, helping the patient see and understand information that is usually outside their grasp. The three-dimensional presentation supports the patient‘s processing of information, allowing them a more in depth understanding of what is happening to them.


VSI Teaching offers modern and practically oriented training of physicians based on real MRI, CT, and SPECT scans, represented three-dimensionally. All anatomical details and structures become visible, and can be interacted with by rotating, scaling, slicing, and peeling them. Functionalities like Natural Rendering make the scans look lifelike, helping the trainees train anatomical orientation, pathology identification, and fracture detection. Surgical procedures can be planned and trained, for example using virtual incision site markings, or catheter placement assistance.Surgeries can be viewed and followed live from anywhere, or can be reviewed at a later time using a recording.


If the doctor wishes to take pictures or videos for a report, patient rounds, or any other reason, the VSI Documentation feature will come in handy. The files are safely kept in the system for later viewing and usage.

Additionally, the doctor can dictate text, for example for a surgical report. This helps save time and energy on the side of the doctor, leading to an overall more positive and optimal experience. The text is also saved in the system for later use.

Patient Rounds

With VSI Patient Rounds the doctor can virtually view relevant patient data, all the while speaking with the patient naturally. He can also call on archived images and videos make new ones, and compare to assess disease progression.The additional functionality of dictation allows the physician to create the roundreport concurrently with their analysis. The text is saved for later use in the system.

The doctor can also call an other expert or colleague who is for example in quarantine at home to ask for advice. The view from the HoloLens is shared with the receiver‘s computer to enable full cooperation and communication.

Medical Fields

Head and Neck

Features such as Bone and Natural Rendering help ENT surgeons identify pathology and plan surgery.


Helpful functions for maxillofacial surgeons include virtual merging of the 3-D STL data set with the corresponding 3-D imaging such as MRI, CT, etc.


Bone rendering makes fractures in the patient’s anatomy visible more quickly. Corresponding procedures can be better planned.


For 3D display and examination of CTs and processed STL files, as well as for planning visceral interventions.

Dental Medicine

All necessary images for planning medical treatment, such as OPG/PTI, CBCT, CT and STL are visible at a glance in the world of Holomedicine.


Telemedicine via Holomedicine enables proctoring from a distance. Proctors see the live stream of the surgeon’s point of view, along with the ultrasound, fluoroscopy etc. on their computer.


The kidneys, kidney stones and renal pelvises are visualized in 3D for better diagnosis and preparation for upcoming intervention.
